Fair Trade Coffee Auto Drip Brewing Instructions

Fair Trade Organic Coffee Auto Drip Brewing Drip brewing can produce excellent coffee that results in a clean, sweet and sparkling cup. You will want a brewer that is able to maintain temperature ranges at or near 200 degrees throughout the entire brew. Unfortunately, most home brewers are unable to sustain ideal temperatures, resulting in weak or underextracted coffee. With a few pointers, however, you should be able to craft a delicious cup of coffee at home on your drip machine.

    You Will Need:
  • Fresh roasted coffee
  • Coffee grinder, ideally a burr grinder (set to auto-drip or medium)
  • Drip brewer (we think Technivorm brewers are the best on the market)
  • Paper or metal mesh filters
  • Filtered water
  • Scale or tablespoon for measuring coffee

Step One: Preheat
Pour very hot water through your paper filter and clean basket. This preheats the brewing area and removes any excess "papery" taste from the filter.

Step Two: Grind coffee
Grind coffee on an auto-drip or medium grind. Aim for 9 grams (two level tablespoons) of coffee per 6 ounces of water. Grind only as much as you need per use so that coffee is not allowed to stale in between brews. When you make pots in the future, adjust the amount of coffee you use to your own, personal taste.

Step Three: Add water
Turn on your brewer and add filtered water.

Step Four: Enjoy
Make sure no heat is applied to the brewed coffee -- and enjoy!
