About The Growers

In 2008, this coop shipped its first Fair Trade harvest, and we were excited to get on board with enthusiastic support for this unique Sumatran. The 8000 members of this cooperative farm near near the villages of Bener Mariah and Aceh Tengah as well as the area surrounding Lake Tawar. The beans they produce are processed traditionally by spreading the beans on the ground for drying after the depulping process. The diverse members, mainly comprised of Gayo and Javanese ethnicities, use this semi- washed process observing extremely careful standards in handling. We bring this roast to a slightly deeper finish, resulting in a very clean Sumatran, with highly unusual and pleasing notes of green pepper and tobacco with a spicy, butterscotch sweetness.
