About The Growers

This farmer's cooperative was formed in the wake of Acteal's notorious massacre, when paramilitary troopers opened fire in a church, killing 45 civilians. Afterwards, these Mayan/Chiapas farmers formed the self-governing coop as part of a wider movement in the Mexican state of Chiapas to promote positive change and autonomous development. The coop is formed from about 700 indigenous families and is governed by a cooperative general assembly. The product of their labor is a crowd-pleasing bean, similar to our Peruvian offering (coming soon!). We give it a medium cozy roast to enhance its sweet and chocolaty flavors.
