About The Growers

Farmers from the Gitwe cooperative planted their first coffee trees in 1959. The coop has 3 wet mills: Karatu, Kabiru, and Karinga. The Karinga wet mill was constructed in 1984 and has 1126 members of which 515 are women. Each producer has an average of 300 trees. In addition to coffee, farmers in this area grow tea, pineapple, and banana for cash. The wet mill is located within the Gatundu District in Kiandu on the eastern slopes of Aberdare ranges.
